Que onda?  You are probably asking yourselves why I'm writing in Spanish on the English section of this post and the truth is that there are some words and expressions that simply cannot be translated. Target's new campaign, #SinTraduccion, centers on this particular topic. As Latinos in the U.S., we sometimes struggle to find those perfect words to translate a particular saying or phrase, but it can be extremely challenging/impossible.

The other day I was watching Premios Juventud, one of the most popular award ceremonies that celebrates Latina/o pop culture. It is, as I call it, la noche más padre del año! I love award ceremonies and although a lot of people do fun get togethers, this year it was a stay-at-home night for me as I was off late from work, and I needed to wake up early the next day.

So, what did I do? I headed over to Target to buy my basic "Spa Night Kit," a couple other things for my Mom, Vicky, and I to much on, and other items that just made their way to my cart (that always happens at Target lol). One of the items I was not supposed to buy, but it ended in my cart, was the letter "A" marquee. I had been wanting one for a very long time and when I saw this one, my mind said matanga dijo la changa.... and I put it on my cart!

Below I share some photos of my night of pampering. There's nothing more relaxing that watching Premios Juventud, singing to your favorite songs, munching on some delicious snacks, and enjoying the feeling of a clean and hydrated skin, especially after a rough day at work!

How did you spend your night during Premios Juventud? What are some words that your think cannot be translated?

Word Translation Glossary
Que onda?: Literal translation is "what a wave." A similar, but not equal, translation would be "what's up?"

La noche mas padre del año: Literal translation is "the most father night of the year." It is similar, but not equal to, the best night of the year. Padre means it is cool, the best, and above and beyond, all of those words at once.

Matanga dijo la changa: Literal translation is "The monkey said Matanga." It's a common expression used in different settings like this one where I could not let the item pass and I had to grab it.

Padre= Cool?

Cuenten!
