I discovered Gerard Cosmetics on Instagram. Many Youtubers and Bloggers reviewed their items, particularly their lipsticks, and I fell in love with the pigmentation and color selection. I do not tend to wear bold lips colors on a daily basis, but when I saw the Grape Soda lipstick, I just had to have it.
Packaging
Let's start by reviewing the packaging. The lipsticks come in a all-gold package with the brand logo. In pictures it definitely looks a little more expensive. In person they look good, but feel very lightweight. For $19 dollars I kind of expected a heavier product. On the good side, I've had these lipsticks on my bag with a bunch of other miscellaneous things and, although they did get a little scratched, the gold has not worn off.
Consistency, Pigmentation, and Wearability
The consistency of these lipsticks is thick but non-drying. They are well pigmented; however, I do have to apply about three coats in order to avoid any "blotchy" spots, specially with Grape Soda. FYI: I did not have my lips dry and other lipsticks that I applied right after did not give me that effect. From up close you can indeed see small "blotchy" spots (See the "Up Close" photo below). You cannot see it from far away, but it is a bit annoying. How can you avoid that? Well, you can apply a lipliner similar to the color you are applying before the lipstick. Overall, the lipsticks lasts for about 1-2 hours and I find that, unless you rub it or press your lips too hard to drink, it does not transfer. After a few hours the lipstick does fade and it gives you the "lipliner" look (I was not wearing a lipliner when I noticed it).
Final Thoughts
I have enjoyed both lipsticks very much. I like the color of both Grape Soda and 1995. I like that they are matte and creamy; however, I do wish that they did not give me the "lipliner look" after fading. I like that they do not dry my lips and the packaging, despite being lightweight, is very chic.
I will probably buy more Gerard Lipsticks in the future; however, I hope they improve the consistency so that you do not need to apply several coats of lipstick or a lipliner to get a perfect application.
